Simply Framed x Joanna Baker…

makeup5Exciting shop news to report! I’ve recently partnered with Simply Framed to offer beautiful custom framing on all of my art prints! Each hand-crafted wooden frame is created right here in the USA.

When you add framing to your order, you’ll receive a carefully packaged kraft gift-wrapped piece ready for hanging. It comes complete with UV-shielding plexiglass (which protects against about 89% of UV rays and 92% of light transmission), a custom cut acid-free 4-ply white mat with beveled edges, protective paperback finishing, wall bumpers, and hanging hardware. Read more about the Simply Framed process here.

Now that framing is easy, I’m taking advantage and offering for the first time ever framed original artwork! I’ve decided to clean out my {overflowing} stash of originals and will make some of them available for sale in my online shop. These items are all one of a kind, hand illustrated on acid-free 150lb illustration board, signed and dated in ink. I’ll be adding them to the shop in waves so be sure to check back often to see when new pieces are up for sale!

And to top off the exciting news (you may have already seen on Instagram), a selection of my note cards, journals, greeting cards, and coasters are now available in my first ever retail location! The Greenpoint General Store now carries my illustrations at 87 Oak Street in Brooklyn. Be sure to stop by and see them for yourself in person =)

Hope you have a happy and productive week!!

Projects… Projects…

I can’t believe that summer is nearly over… it will be September before we know it! I’ve been working up a storm on a few design and illustration projects, one in particular for my website that I’m super excited about (and have been staying up into the wee hours of the night working on!) But until that’s ready to reveal, I wanted to share a project I finished awhile back that I can finally post on the blog!

Back in January, the lovely Erin behind the super cool sewing blog Seamstress Erin reached out to me about designing her wedding invitations. She was in the thick of wedding planning, I had just gotten married not even a month before, and we were both in a wedding state of mind. I was really excited to work on her design!

Erin is not your traditional bride and she had some clever ideas for her wedding invites. Her wedding dress was no less than the perfect shade of pale pink and she needed to have a unique and memorable invitation. She decided to rewrite some very famous song lyrics and wanted illustrations to go along with them for the front of the card. And on the back, an illustration of the barn where the reception was being held along with all the wedding details. The RSVP’s were postcard style fill-in-the-blank mad libs. So adorable.

The whole process made me realize how much I LOVE weddings… even 8 months later I still get giddy when I hear of someone getting engaged. I don’t even really have to know them but I suddenly want to help them plan it all out. And I really do know a thing or two about the planning part if I do say so myself. =)

Just getting to see a glimpse into someone’s special day and help make a small part of it come to life as they imagined really feels good. Happy wedding day, Erin & Adam, I hope it was even better than you dreamed!

Joanna Baker for JVW Home…

The lovely Jeanette of JVW Home, a Texas-based interior design firm, reached out to me a couple of months ago in search of some illustrations to spruce up her already beautiful website.

After sharing ideas back and forth, we worked together to dream up two images featuring Jeanette and her assistant, Christin, designing away in their studio. It was so much fun choosing all the colors and details. I love how they turned out and am so excited to share them with you!

They recently debuted on Jeanette’s website here and here. Jeanette was amazing to work with and I highly recommend you check out her site! She has obvious talent and lovely taste in putting together a home. In addition to traditional design services, she also offers e-design… perfect for when you just can’t figure out how to rework your living room!

If you’ve got an idea in mind for a custom illustration, I’d love to hear it! Feel free to contact me… I’d love to work with you to create something special!

A is for Ankle Boots…

A colleague of mine and his partner recently adopted a baby girl and invited me to a welcoming party in her honor last Sunday. This little girl is set for life… for starters her closet is already bigger than mine! The entire event was catered and the two proud daddies went all out with cake, candies, and desserts decorated with her monogram. There was even a red carpet involved… needless to say, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a fancier baby shower!

To commemorate such an occasion, I decided to create an illustrated alphabet for the fashionista-to-be. I had to get creative on some of the letters but I’m so happy with how it turned out and really hope they like it.

I was thinking of adding it to my Etsy shop this weekend to see if there was any interest in illustrated alphabets. I’ve done one before for another friend and think it’s a great way to pull a nursery theme together. Let me know what you think and if you’d be interested in a custom alphabet for your baby!

Custom Illustration Giveaway…

I had always hoped that starting a blog would lead to exciting things. But I never expected to have such sweet, caring, and supportive readers!  Kelsey Murray of Tickle Me Pink Style is just that.

After finding out that Kelsey graciously included me in her ‘Link Love’ friday post last week, I reached out to thank her. And before we knew it, we were working to create a fabulous giveaway for our readers! This week, I’ve teamed up with Kelsey to give away a custom illustration dreamed up by yours truly!

Get ready to have your favorite outfit immortalized in pen and ink with a fashion illustration portrait for your office, dream closet, chic apartment, etc. You send me a photo of yourself in your favorite look (or send me images of a look you wish was yours) and I’ll turn them into a lovely fashion illustration ready for framing.

To enter, head on over to Tickle Me Pink Style! The winner will be chosen at random on Monday, September 23rd. Good luck!! =)

In addition to Kelsey’s lovely blog, she can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram… I can’t wait for her recaps of fall fashion week!
