Calendar Launch and a Special Surprise!

blogcalendar-joanna-baker-smallHello lovelies!! I hope you had (and are still having) a wonderful and relaxing holiday with friends and family. I’m reporting from my parents’ home in the country and it sure does feel good to get out of the city! Just being here makes me instantly more at ease and I’ve realized I definitely need to take more breaks and go on more trips!

I’m super excited to announce the launch of a very big project I’ve been working on since July. It has definitely been a labor of love and I’m so happy to finally be able to share it with you: this year marks the release of my first ever illustrated “Favorite Things” monthly calendar! Every month in 2016 is filled to the brim with little illustrations of all my favorite things.

Since leaving my full-time corporate design job back in January, the past eleven months have been amazing in more ways than one… amazingly freeing, motivating, challenging, inspiring… I wanted to commemorate my first year of working for myself with a special project, one that embodies who I am as an illustrator and what I love most… my favorite things! I hope that you’ll find some of these illustrations happen to be your favorite things too =)

And to celebrate all of this as well as the mega-shopping-long-weekend that is Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday I’m offering a surprise sale on everything in my online shop and on Etsy! Use code SUPERSALE20 to get 20% off your entire order Friday November 27th, through Monday November 30th!

And as an extra surprise with a cherry on top, all of my cell phone cases in my Casetify shop are 30% off with free shipping now through Monday when using the codes below:

Black Friday weekend: use code ILOVEBF for 30% off + free ship from Nov 27-29 PST for CASETIFY phone cases

Happy shopping and I can’t wait to start sending calendars off to their new homes! =)

Joanna Baker at Thistle & Clover!

thistle-clover-joanna-bakerI have some super exciting shop news to report! A selection of my illustrated flat note cards, journals, tote bags, and coasters is now available for the holiday season at Thistle & Clover in Fort Greene, Brooklyn!

Thistle & Clover is a great little shop with lots of beautiful, hand selected clothing, accessories, and giftables. A little while back, I met with co-owner Camilla (the sweetest ever!) and brought along a sampling of all my illustrated paper products so she could choose her favorites. I was thrilled to create an NYC inspired journal adapted from my most popular greeting card design upon request which is currently available only at Thistle & Clover (but will make it’s debut in my online shop soon!)

I just dropped off my little lovelies to the shop last week so if you’re in the Fort Greene area, be sure to stop by Thistle & Clover to pick up some gorgeous gifts this holiday season!!

Fashion Month Recap Part 1…

thegirlsofNYFW-joanna-bakerNow that fashion month has come to an end, it’s high time I update the blog with all my sketches and events!! I’ve never drawn this many looks before during fashion month and it was definitely a fun challenge to keep up with my favorite shows… there were so many great looks and only so many hours in a day! First up, the shows and events here at home in NYC…

I was invited by the lovely Karissa, founder of Thrive Causemetics to attend the Assembly New York fashion presentation. Thrive did the hair and makeup looks for all the models. Her brand has an amazing story behind it and for every cosmetic product sold, she donates one to a woman going through cancer treatment. I went back stage to test out the products before they hit the stores and even got a brow touch up by Karissa herself! She is super sweet and I’m so glad I got the chance to see her beauty products in action. I sketched my favorite look from the show, a wide leg, cropped jumper but I had my eye on the trench coat too!

Meanwhile, some of my favorites were coming down the runway… Oscar de La Renta, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhullier, Zimmermann, Delpozo, and Marchesa.

I couldn’t get enough of the entire look head-to-toe at Oscar. Carolina did amazing things with pleats. Monique Lhullier and Marchesa were all about embellishments. The pretty dresses at Zimmermann were a dream and everything at Delpozo was, as expected, completely exquisite. I love illustrating the details, but my Delpozo girls definitely took the longest to sketch! =)

Final Walk at Raul Penaranda NYFW from Joanna Baker on Vimeo.

I was also invited to the Kia Style 360 NYFW Lounge to see Raul Penaranda’s Spring 2016 show. This season, he was all about the tech fabrics, body-con silhouettes, bright colors, and high energy! The show was a lot of fun. But true to form, there were some flirty dresses and frothy gowns added into the mix. My favorites were the chambray chevron dress and beaded sequin skirt, I got the final look on video and you can see a glimpse of both! So proud of Raul, we used to work together in the corporate design world awhile back and it’s amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it. He is such an inspiration and a reminder that you can make whatever you want happen with hard work and a relentless drive!

Okay, that’s it for now! Stay tuned for part two coming soon =)

New Originals…

originals-small-joanna-baker

Happy Thursday!! It’s almost the happiest day of the week and I wanted to let you know first thing that I just added new originals to the shop! You choose the frame =) Once they’re sold, they’re gone for good. Wouldn’t you love to have these beauties hanging on your wall?

I have some exciting shop news that I’ll be sharing at the start of September along with a big reveal of a project I’ve been working on recently. It will truly be a labor of love when I’m finished and I can’t wait for it to make its debut! Stay tuned and stay cool… fall will be here before you know it!!
