Have you ever seen the Russian documentary, Ballerina? I ran across it while browsing Netflix and was so intrigued. It follows five aspiring prima ballerinas as they train to be part of the Kirov ballet. Definitely a must see if you love dance…
I took lessons from age four up until I went away for college and even though I haven’t danced in five years, ballet continues to stay with me. My undergraduate visual art thesis featured fragmented, charcoal and pastel renderings of ballerinas in motion. Looking back at my drawings from senior year made me want to start dancing again.
Some of the sketches above eventually became a part of my thesis. A few were rough, quick, sketches but most them were more refined. One thing’s for sure, I really miss having unlimited time to draw just for drawing’s sake…
