Wishing for Fall…

fall-wishlist-joanna-baker New York Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow and although fall clothes and sales are everywhere, New York is definitely still in a summer state of mind! It may be ninety degrees outside but that’s not stopping my day dreams of oversized coats, cozy scarves and the cutest red booties for the season. This tee adds the perfect touch of metallic and I’m in desperate need of some new Hunter wellies!

I’m excited to be able to attend a few events for fashion week while I work through commissions and keep up on the latest fabulous things strutting down the runways. New Originals…

Happy Thursday!! It’s almost the happiest day of the week and I wanted to let you know first thing that I just added new originals to the shop! You choose the frame =) Once they’re sold, they’re gone for good. Wouldn’t you love to have these beauties hanging on your wall?

I have some exciting shop news that I’ll be sharing at the start of September along with a big reveal of a project I’ve been working on recently. It will truly be a labor of love when I’m finished and I can’t wait for it to make its debut! Stay tuned and stay cool… fall will be here before you know it!!

Couture Week Recap…

couture-girls-joanna-baker Last week I was in complete sketching heaven… couture week was upon us and my instafeed was overflowing with inspiration. It’s always exciting when you have so many things to draw that you can’t keep up!

Giambattista Valli was by far my favorite… the proportions, the colors, the styling… it was all just begging to be sketched!! Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad also didn’t disappoint in a plethora of sparkles and gowns fit for queens. The Valentino show was very dark but very beautiful. I wasn’t as inspired to draw any of those looks yet though… I think I’m still too much in a summer state of mind! =) A golden goddess from the Elie Saab show:

We had planned a visit to the country to see my family this past weekend but I knew I couldn’t leave my art supplies in New York. So I packed up everything and kept sketching on the go! Three sparkly looks from Zuhair Murad:

Marchesa Resort…

I picked my three favorite “casual sunday brunch” looks and had so much fun rendering the details… meet my Marchesa triplets!

Milestones Great & Small…

I’m a firm believer in celebrating victories big and small when you’re working hard to pursue a dream… and this past Sunday, I reached 3,000 Instagram followers!

When I quit my full-time job back in January of this year, I had a vision of where I wanted to be, the support of my close friends and family, and about 600 sweet Instagram cheerleaders giving me that extra boost to make the leap.

Fast forward nearly 5 1/2 months later and I’m able to share my journey with some wonderful people! I love seeing the comments and making a connection through my art, it helps me to keep going, keep pushing to achieve my goals and know in my heart that if you work hard enough and believe in yourself, you can will your dreams into reality.

I hope you have a happy Wednesday and a wonderful July 1st! I’m excited to celebrate the 4th this weekend with some dear friends and hopefully plenty of watermelon! =)
