Happy 2018!

Favorite Things 2018 Calendar by Joanna BakerHappy new year lovelies! I hope everyone had a happy a safe start to 2018. There’s nothing better than starting the year off with a clean house, a clean studio, and fresh ideas. I’m excited for new opportunities in 2018 and can’t wait to move into the next phase of my business…

It will soon be three years since I quit my full time job to pursue this crazy idea of mine and I’m so thankful to have you all along on the journey. I hope to add even more content to my YouTube channel this year and get in front of the camera a bit more myself. It’s something that I’m not too comfortable with and usually all of my social media content focuses on my sketches with the occasional peek into my life, i.e. Junebug Kitty or my various chai latte runs and trips to the art store.

But this year I think I’m going to make a goal of it to get out in front of my business and share more of the ‘behind the scenes’ because I know that for me it’s where all the most important and helpful stuff is. Some of my favorite e-mails that I get are from young, aspiring illustrators or small business creatives (the youngest so far has been 11 years old!) who are searching for advice on how to start their creative businesses or make a living creating art. I absolutely love answering those e-mails and want to be an encouraging force for anyone looking to follow their passion and wondering where to start. And the easiest way for me to do that is to get in front of the camera and share my experiences.

Do you have any goals for 2018? I’d love to hear them! What would you like to see on my Youtube channel in the new year? Let me know and I’ll try to get to your questions in my videos and on Instagram stories. Thanks so much again for being apart of this adventure and I can’t wait to take you along with me through 2018!

xoxo

    Hi Joanna!

Thanks for being so encouraging.! You and Brooke are always so nice and fun to chat with. It’s great to see fellow
artists doing well and being willing to help others!

My goals this year are to draw a lot more, come up
with new products for my Etsy shop and learn more
about SEO so I can drive traffic to it. I’d love to see
something about the marketing and promotion side
of your business, maybe how to go about landing a
client in the fashion world, as well as more on
rendering texture. Oh, and when you do a sketch in varied skin tones, do you change the color in Photoshop, or just re-draw it with a different color? I was wondering about that.

    Thanks, and stay warm!

I would love to see all of those things!
My goal this year is to learn about what it takes to sell illustrations and start a small business. So I’m all ears to any advice you may post 🙂
