Simply Framed x Joanna Baker…

makeup5 Exciting shop news to report! I’ve recently partnered with Simply Framed to offer beautiful custom framing on all of my art prints! Each hand-crafted wooden frame is created right here in the USA.

When you add framing to your order, you’ll receive a carefully packaged kraft gift-wrapped piece ready for hanging. It comes complete with UV-shielding plexiglass (which protects against about 89% of UV rays and 92% of light transmission), a custom cut acid-free 4-ply white mat with beveled edges, protective paperback finishing, wall bumpers, and hanging hardware. Now that framing is easy, I’m taking advantage and offering for the first time ever framed original artwork! I’ve decided to clean out my {overflowing} stash of originals and will make some of them available for sale in my online shop. These items are all one of a kind, hand illustrated on acid-free 150lb illustration board, signed and dated in ink. I’ll be adding them to the shop in waves so be sure to check back often to see when new pieces are up for sale!

And to top off the exciting news (you may have already seen on Instagram), a selection of my note cards, journals, greeting cards, and coasters are now available in my first ever retail location! The Greenpoint General Store now carries my illustrations at 87 Oak Street in Brooklyn. Be sure to stop by and see them for yourself in person =)

I’m loving this yellow-palazzo-pants-and-crop-top look… not sure I’d be able to pull this off but how fabulous is she?!

My First Show…

My Renegade Craft Fair day is over and I’m still wiped! It was a lot of fun and a ton of work to prepare. The day started off a bit crazy weather-wise, but we made it through and it was not only a good learning experience but a great success! I think next time I might try for two days to make all the work worth it, but here’s the low down…

We arrived around 8:20ish in the morning after pulling a near all nighter to get things packaged up. (I had what seemed like a billion snafu’s getting everything ready… including a printer melt down) My friend Kristin was amazing and helped me finish the final touches and stayed with me the entire day of the fair. Thanks K!!

I had the sweetest booth buddy, Ashley of Poko Jewelry. She brought a tent that we could both share. The fair opened at 11:00AM but around 10:30 while we were setting up shop, the skies opened up and it started to rain. Along with that, big gusts of wind threatened all of our tents and I had a moment of thinking everything would just blow away and we’d have to go home. But around noon the rain stopped and by 1:00PM the sun was shining and the park was packed with happy shoppers.

It was so wonderful to meet people in person and be able to share my work in a public setting for the first time. I just wished I had more sleep from the night before! My NYC cards flew like hot cakes and got lots of laughs which was fun. Everyone seemed to have a favorite print and it was interesting to see what people liked best. My city dogs were definitely a hit, along with anything flamingo. And I’m sure national donut day had a thing or two to do with the popularity of my donut illustrations =) I made notes of things people wish I had, like the Eiffel Fleur print on a journal or the NYC illustrations in an 8×10 print. It was great to get instant customer feedback so I can prepare for next time!

Overall it was a fun event (with great food!) and I definitely want to go back to the Renegade Pop Up Shops another Saturday this month so I can experience it as a shopper. It’s a wonderful opportunity for artisans and makers and I can only hope I get accepted into the holiday show later on this year! Thanks to everyone who stopped by my booth and for all the wonderful feedback. It gives me a boost to keep moving forward and figure out my next move!

About Cannes…

Watching all the coverage of the Cannes film festival pop up on social media has definitely been the fashion highlight of my week… there were so many sparkly dresses! And I’m obsessed with these column gowns with full side skirts from Zuhair Murad. Petra and Chanel looked absolutely stunning in theirs while Karlie made an entrance in blue Oscar de la Renta. I never tire of sketching gorgeous gowns!

Bridal Week…

This past week has been extra beautiful and romantic with bridal week coverage taking over my Instagram feed… from Marchesa to Oscar de la Renta, seeing these gorgeous gowns makes me want to get married all over again! Well maybe not the planning part but definitely the dress-up part =)

I was trying to figure out which gowns to sketch from the shows and then I came across this photo on Carolina Herrera’s Facebook page. Don’t you just love her? She’s absolutely stunning and her work is just as exquisite.

Every once in awhile she would stop by the J.Crew Collection store on Madison when I used to work there and we would be completely beside ourselves. She’s even more elegant in person and such an inspiration. If you haven’t had a chance, be sure to check out the bridal gowns from her latest collection and follow her on Instagram for behind the scenes snaps. Trust me, it’s so worth it!
